Charity Begins at Home: An Update

A few months ago, we wrote about how we would be donating a house and land package in Geraldton Heights Estate to Midwest Charity Begins at Home with one of our builder partners, Redink Homes. The home will be auctioned off and the proceeds will all be donated to Midwest Charity Begins at Home. We would like to take this opportunity to provide an update to let everyone know where we are in the process.

Donating A House and Land Package to Midwest Charity Begins At Home

Some festivities were scheduled in appreciation of everyone involved. There were also a lot of volunteers helping out. On Sunday 5 October, a “Gardening Busy Bee” was held outside of the charity home. Volunteers helped finish the garden beds and plantings. Everyone put in a solid effort and the day was enjoyed by all. As Peter Bisby, the General Manager of Redink Homes Midwest remarked, “I think in today’s world we are so busy with many things, with the amount of work we all do and the general fast pace of life we can forget the great joy of doing work to help others, not for any reward other than the greatest of all, a feeling of connection, community spirit and improved wellbeing!“

The following week was very busy. On Saturday 11 October, a Thank You Day Sausage Sizzle was held in honour of the tradies and their families. On Thursday 16 October, as part of the pre-launch, a cocktail party was hosted called “An Evening in the Charity Home”, which was attended by suppliers and VIPs. Two days later, on Saturday 18 October, the Official Opening Day was held at the charity home. Those who took a selfie outside the home and put it on the Facebook page were entered for a chance to win an iPad.

On Saturday 25 October, the Family Open Day and Street Party was held. Activities such as pony rides, a bouncy castle and face painting were available for children. The day was was thoroughly enjoyed by all – especially the lucky winner of the raffle who walked away with a pizza oven! Special recognition should be given to all the volunteers for their sterling efforts to make the day such a huge success.

Finally: the Auction

Of course, the big day is Saturday 8 November, when the house is scheduled to be auctioned off at 11 am. We will have a lot more about this in a later post here on the website.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved. We are delighted to be in a position to give back to the Geraldton community and we are grateful to have so many people helping us in this endeavour.
